This large village stands in the Gedling borough of Nottinghamshire, six miles east of the Derbyshire border and close to Papplewick and Newstead Abbey. Ravenshead was included in a list of locations referred to as the Hidden Valleys, referring to the ‘lush, undulating expanse of countryside’ north of Hucknall. It has good transport links and is just 30 minutes away from Nottingham.
Among a number of popular choices is the 15th century country pub The Hutt, a former coaching inn, which sits opposite Newstead Abbey on Nottingham Road and is the perfect spot for a well-deserved drink and a delicious bite to eat after exploring the abbey’s grounds.
The Little John Inn, on the edge of Ravenshead, has freshly cooked food that includes a wide mouthwatering choice for Sunday lunch. And there’s even a doggie dinner offering if you want to treat your furry friend.
Food-loving locals are well catered for in the village with shops including Bradbury’s butcher’s and delicatessen, Ravenshead Farm Shop, offering local and home-reared meats, and enjoy a cuppa and a delicious sweet treat at Rose’s Pantry.
